Bonjour mes amis!

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. This weather has been crazy! We didn't get too much accomplished this week with all the snow days and students missing!
We have started a new term so lots of new learning around is around the corner.

French: L'Heure Genie- Genius Hour. We started this back at the beginning of the month and the students will have the entire month to choose their subject, and their inquiry question they will be researching about. They can display their learnings in which ever way they would like; presentation, poster, etc.  The emphasis is on RESEARCH! I want them to become experts on their interest. I have been giving them 2 hours a week to work on it. They have the option of working with a friend.

Writing: We will be focusing on mini lessons in grammar and vocabulary to enhance our writing.  We are continuing on adjectifs possessifs and plurals and singular of  adjectives. I will be assigning more writing for practice as well. I  will post all homework on this site.

Students should be completing at  least 10 minutes of Duolingo A DAY!

Science: This week we started examining what we already know and what we want to know about how the human body works. We will be researching the 5 different systems in French, which will be the challenge as the vocabulary is quite heavy, but the new terms will be kept in their Science duotang so they can practice.

ART: We will be examining Canadian Aboriginal artists and the symbolism they use in their pieces of art.

Report Cards:
If you have any questions about your child's marks and comments please contact me.
I am encouraging the students to speak French all the time in class, especially to their classmates, which they often forget.

Mr. Fischer is arranging for morning interviews starting this week. I look forward to seeing you,

Mme. B

As discussed in class today when the tests were handed back, I was very pleased with the AVOIR test but am having a REDO test on Monday (the 18) for those students that would like to try the ETRE test. We went over the test today, and I am confident the students know how to conjugate ETRE, but perhaps with all the changes they got confused. We have been practicing for awhile! It will be very similar to the last test.  Most mistakes were not adding les accords, so if conjugating with etre an e must be added for a female, es for pluriel feminine, and an s if it`s more than one person.

We have started our rough draft of our recount parliament trip, and plan on starting the editing portion by the beginning of next week. So final copy will be done end of next week, beginning of the following week, the 25th of January.

SCIENCE: We will be finishing up our Matter unit with the students choosing an experiment to do in front of the class, one that they can explain what and why is happening. I also explained that the materials must be something I can buy  :)  We will be starting these experiments next week. I will have a sign up sheet for the students.

DRAMA: I have assigned a skit for groups in the class. They decided today which roles they will be responsible for. They will have all of next week to rehearse and prepare.
PLAYS TO BE PERFORMED TUESDAY JANUARY 26th.

REMINDER : PD DAY Friday the 22nd of January.

Ça sera deux semaines très occupés!!
Bonne fin de semaine!!

Bonjour mes amis!

We have spent the week working on our social studies unit of Canadian organizations, international, non-profit (NGOs) and treaties with other countries. Each group were  responsible for chosing a Canadian NGO and through research answer questions I gave them. They will be presenting this on Monday, and it will be graded for their oral and their social studies mark.

Next week they will be placed in groups and given another organization to research their implications with Canada and the world.

Passé une bonne semaine!

Bonjour!!

Just wanted to remind the students of thier test this Wednesday. They will be asked to identify all of the Canadian capitals and the cardinal directions; nord, est, l'ouest , sud, nord- ouest, nord-est, sud-est, sud- l'ouest. We have sent the week practicing and coming up with little tricks that will help on the test. They have been practicing on websites, a list of them are found in their drive.

NExt week we will be starting on the physical regions of Canada. They will be placed in 7 different groups, each one responsible for researching a region. They will be presenting them in front of the class. This will be assessed for their oral language, and their social studies mark.

Passé une bonne fin de semaine.

Bonne fin de semaine mes élevés!!! Vous avez travaillé très bien cette semaine!

Test lundi pour seulement AVOIR.
Test mardi pour Être.

The students have been pracitcing passé composé this entire week!
They have  a list of websites for practicing and they have a revision sheet in their drive. Google docs weren't working this week so I wasn't able to send the revision page earlier, but they have seen it several times this week. The test itself will not be heavily weighted for assessment, but they are working on a writing assignment, a recount of their trip to parliament.  This will be the majority of their writing mark. I will be looking at the entire procedure from the rough draft, to editing and the final copy, with a large emphasis on proper use of the passé composé.

À lundi mes amis! Passé une bonne fin de semaine!
